How To Apply

Non-thesis MIR Program

Application to non-thesis MIR program at Boğaziçi University requires uploading of the following documents to the web address to be announced by the university before the application deadline (for the guide of online application please refer to the following link):

1. Application form of Registrar’s Office available on the Electronic Application System.

2. Payment of the application fee. For payment details please check Electronic Application System Guide.

3. Official copy of the undergraduate diploma or certificate of graduation. Applicants who have not yet graduated must submit an official document to be received from their university showing that they are eligible to graduate.

4. An official transcript of undergraduate (and graduate, if any) courses and grades. The official transcript should be either in (or officially translated to) English or Turkish.

5. A minimum undergraduate CGPA of 2.00/4.00.

6. Statement of purpose, not exceeding 300 words, stating the candidate's interest in the program.

7. Two reference letters, at least one academic (You can download the Letter of Recommendation Form from here).

8. Document of disciplinary record to be received from the university in which the applicant completed his/her undergraduate studies (only for applicants who have graduated from a university in Turkey).

9. For foreign applicants "recognition document", for native applicants "equivalence document" for B.A diploma should be provided from Higher Education Council in Ankara, if B.A degree is received from a university abroad.

10. Any of the following proofs of English proficiency. 
Note: Applicants who received their undergraduate degree from Boğaziçi University and are applying to a graduate program within at most two years of graduation will be exempt from the English proficiency test. English proficiency level of citizens from countries where English is the official language will be determined via an interview at the School of Foreign Languages (YADYOK), and a written exam if necessary.

  • TOEFL: In the paper-based test (TOEFL PBT), a minimum total score of 550 with a minimum score of 4.5 in the TWE section (Test of Written English); or in the internet-based test (TOEFL iBT), a minimum total score of 79 with a minimum score of 22 in the "Writing" section.
  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Academic: A minimum combined score of 6.5 with a minimum score of 6.5 in the academic "Writing" section.
  • BUEPT (Bogazici University English Proficiency Test): A minimum score of "C".

3. Official copy of undergraduate diploma or certificate of graduation. Applicants who have not yet graduated must submit an official document to be received from their university showing that they are eligible to graduate.

4. An official transcript of undergraduate (and graduate, if any) courses and grades. The official transcript should be either in (or officially translated to) English or Turkish.

5. A minimum undergraduate CGPA of 2.50/4.00.

6. Official GRE or ALES score that satisfies the following requirements: For GRE -  A minimum total score of 146 in the "Verbal Reasoning" Section of GRE Revised General Test (400 according to old scale or "GRE General Test"), a minimum total score of 146 in the "Quantitative Reasoning" Section of GRE Revised General Test (560 according to old scale or "GRE General Test"), and a minimum total score of 3.0 in the "Analytical Writing" Section of GRE Revised General Test (3.0 according to old scale or "GRE General Test"). For ALES - A minimum total score of 65 for Equally-Weighted Section.

10. An academic writing sample: The applicant should submit an English sample paper from one of his/her undergraduate courses. S/he should make sure to send what s/he considers to be his/her best example of writing which should provide evidence of his/her ability to conduct research, write analytically and argue persuasively. The sample should be around 3000 words in length.

11. A research proposal between 5-7 pages, type-written in English, on a topic that the applicant finds important and interesting. The proposal should include the research methods that will be employed, and the primary and secondary sources that will be used. Proposals longer than 7 pages and shorter than 5 pages will not be accepted.
